What the judges look for

How judging works
  • Each round runs for a calendar month. Entries received by the last day of the month go into that round
  • Judging happens in the first week of the following month
  • Each entry can win once per round, and one maker can win more than one category
  • No age categories: everyone is judged together, and the judges take each maker's age into account
  • Winners are announced by Morris & James and posted their awards
  • The first round closes at the end of January 2027
Who are the judges?

Every entry is judged by a panel:

  • Past staff of Morris & James Pottery
  • Amanda Penton, head Klay Master tutor
  • Guest potters occasionally join us on the judging panel
Klay Master Finisher Magnet, with a model in the centre

Finisher Magnet

This one is about progress: sticking with it, finishing what you start and learning new skills along the way. Any child who completes three activities gets a Finisher Magnet: a flat fridge magnet with a rosette design. The design changes often, so they become collectable through the year.

123= Finisher Magnet
How it works
  • Complete any three activities, entered at any time in the year
  • Three from one pack, or across different packs, all count
  • One Finisher Magnet per child, posted once the third entry is in
  • No judging: finishing is the achievement

Prizes are posted separately, with NZ postage included, and are not part of the pack.
